Job Description:

St. Mary’s Academy seeks an experienced high school or graduate level physics and chemistry teacher for a long-term substitute position this spring. The ideal candidate has proven success in preparing students for the AP Physics exam with a track record of high scores, as students will be taking the examination in May 2025. This position includes teaching three classes per day: AP Physics, Physics, and Chemistry. The position spans from April 1, 2025 - June 3, 2025. 

Note: Consideration would be given to split the position if candidates were only interested in teaching physics or chemistry.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach three classes per day;
  • Follow teacher’s lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning while encouraging students to participate;
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities;
  • Assign classwork and homework as necessary, according to lesson plans;
  • Prepare classroom for class activities;
  • Modify teaching to fit the learning styles of various students;
  • Maintain a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment;
  • Create lesson plans, grade classwork, homework, and tests;
  • Attend parent conferences;
  • Possess a professional demeanor while interacting with parents students and colleagues.;
  • Adhere to and support the mission of St. Mary’s Academy.

All teachers are also responsible for a variety of duties and tasks throughout the day; the principal will make these assignments and share them with faculty. These tasks and assignments change as needs of the community are determined.  

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education and qualifications should include the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry or a related field
  • Master’s degree or teaching certification is strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of teaching experience - ideally with a capacity to teach a range of levels through A.P. Physics.
  • Ability to connect and communicate effectively with students
  • Demonstrated use of classroom technology
  • Willingness to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and parents
  • A sense of resonance with the St. Mary’s Academy mission

S alary:

The salary range for this long-term substitute position is $7,800.00 - $10,000.
