We have a great opportunity for those with the appropriate experience and looking to progress or grow their careers within the regulatory environment of the building industry.

You may be an experienced Building Officer who has existing competencies or a builder with existing foreman, site management or a high-level stakeholder engagement experience who is looking to move off the tools. We have scope to consider various experience within the construction and local government sectors, and the support to achieve qualifications and competency levels will be available for the right person.

As a Building Officer – Inspector

You will:

  • Conduct building inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and documentation for review and record-keeping.
  • Collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders providing clear guidance and advice to property owners, builders, contractors and Council regarding building requirements and best practices.
  • Assist in process improvement through the development and implementation of inspection processes and protocols within the Building team.
  • Monitor ongoing construction projects by visiting sites regularly to ensure compliance throughout the building process.
  • Engage with the team through education on building standards and encourage adherence to regulations.

About you | Ko ngā pūmanawa ōu

We are seeking a Building Officer who has working knowledge of building construction methodology, designs and relevant building legislation.

You will hold either a Level 6 Diploma as a Building Surveyor or an other relevant qualification, or be willing to undertake a 2 year, on the job diploma to gain your Reg 18 qualifications required for this role. There is significant experience in house to support learning needs.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with a variety of people.
  • A solutions focussed outlook and the ability to make sound judgement.
  • The ability to read, process and apply legislative frameworks in a regulatory environment. Support to build this experience will be provided.
  • Willingness to undertake the Reg 18 qualification 2 year diploma and achieve competency levels
  • A good sense of humour, proficient computer skills
  • Physically fit in order to carry out inspections on roofs, in crawl spaces and under buildings.
  • Full drivers license
