The Geosciences Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will teach a core curriculum course in their specialty that addresses how Earth's climate changes from a modern and/or paleo- perspective. Such a course can be centered around any of the following disciplines: Marine geology, Paleoclimatology, Glacial Geology, Paleontology, or Paleoceanography. Courses will also contribute to our Environment Studies program. Annual teaching responsibilities will include this core course and a topical introductory geology course (both with labs and field trips), plus a non-lab elective course of the candidate's choosing.
The Geosciences Department is a vibrant department where faculty engage in a wide variety of student-involved research (). We view research as a cornerstone of undergraduate education, and the candidate will be expected to maintain a robust scholarly research program and regularly engage their disciplinary community. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate their ability to effectively mentor undergraduate students as part of their research. All Hamilton students complete a Senior Project and commonly participate in research during the academic year and over the summer.
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching and doing research with diverse student populations. D. are preferred. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $89,800 to $96,000.
